Maximum impact protection for BMW Group in Debrecen

For its new production site in Debrecen, Hungary, BMW Group needed a robust, sustainable impact protection solution for its manufacturing environment. In a large automotive plant like this, pedestrian traffic, forklifts, and internal logistics are constantly crossing paths. BMW Group therefore set high standards for safety, durability, and maintenance and turned to Boplan for a reliable solution.

The challenge

BMW Group wanted to maintain a consistently high level of safety for pedestrians and machine operators alike. At the same time, it needed to prevent collision damage to columns, machinery, storage racks, gates, and industrial doors.

The specific dimensions of the production halls and the intensity of internal traffic called for column protection tailored to the facility layout. Heavy metal racks used for block stacking also needed protection against instability and collision damage. In addition, many walkways run close to forklift routes. Sensitive production equipment and access points also required reliable protection.

The solution

Boplan introduced an integrated safety solution fully aligned with BMW Group’s infrastructure and internal traffic flows.

Customized column protection

To protect structural columns, we installed CP UNIVERSAL, complemented by bollards and TB 260 PLUS safety barriers. This combination shields load-bearing columns from heavy impacts, while the modular design integrates seamlessly into the facility layout.

Secure block storage for metal racks

BMW Group uses a block stacking system for storage. To protect the metal racks supporting this method, we installed TB 260 GRILL. This robust safety barrier absorbs impacts efficiently and increases the stability of the block storage areas without taking up additional floor space.

Clear separation of pedestrians and traffic

To clearly separate pedestrians from internal vehicle traffic, we installed TB 260 PLUS barriers along the walkways. These barriers create a physical and visual separation between people and vehicles, significantly improving safety across the facility.

Reliable protection for machinery and gates

We protected sensitive machinery, industrial doors, and access points with strategically placed bollards. These impact-resistant posts absorb collisions and shield critical installations from damage.

The result

BMW Group now benefits from a durable, low-maintenance safety system that fully aligns with its internal safety standards. The clear separation between pedestrians and vehicles significantly improves workplace safety.

Columns, racks, machinery, and access points remain continuously protected from impacts. Damage to infrastructure is reduced, along with downtime and repair costs. Thanks to Boplan’s high-performance polymer solutions, the facility maintains its structural integrity even after repeated collisions.

With this approach, BMW Group strengthens operational safety, safeguards production continuity, and invests in a future-ready manufacturing environment.
