Step-by-step safety: How Boplan implemented a safe pedestrian traffic plan at ArcelorMittal
In the industrial environment of ArcelorMittal Ghent, pedestrians cross paths with light and heavy vehicles every day. A moment’s inattention can have serious consequences. Searching for a robust and highly visible barrier between pedestrians and motorized vehicles, ArcelorMittal found a reliable partner in Boplan — a company that approaches safety the way they approach steel: with a strong focus on quality, precision and reliability.
The challenge
At ArcelorMittal Ghent, people’s safety comes first. To effectively separate pedestrians from vehicles without disrupting the production process, ArcelorMittal needed a solution that went beyond traditional concrete barriers.
Concrete barriers provided insufficient impact protection, were difficult to relocate, and interfered with maintenance. This is why ArcelorMittal chose Boplan’s smart, modular safety solutions. These robust safety barriers are highly visible, extremely impact-resistant, and require minimal maintenance. The result? A safer, more efficient, and better organized workplace.
A carefully prepared traffic plan with pedestrian protection
The solution
Boplan worked with ArcelorMittal to develop a sophisticated safety system tailored to this company’s specific needs. This plan creates clearly defined, permanent walkways and shields critical areas.
HP PLUS 3 Rails – visibility in all conditions
We installed HP PLUS handrails in busy work areas and along walkways, both indoors and outdoors. In this production setting, where dust and dirt can obscure vision, luminescent strips ensure excellent visibility. Even in low-light conditions.
BO200R bollards
Placed in strategic locations, these bollards protect infrastructure, indicate traffic flows, and enhance visibility — for example, at the ends of handrails. Colored black and yellow and featuring reflective stripes, these bollards also boost drivers' awareness of hazards.

TB 260 PLUS with/without removable base plate
In areas requiring regular maintenance of technical systems, our TB 260 PLUS safety barriers replace traditional concrete blocks. These barriers provide robust impact protection and, thanks to their removable base plate, can be quickly and easily dismantled when necessary. This simplifies maintenance while ensuring complete safety.
The result
Thanks to Boplan’s safety solutions…
- Pedestrians are always protected.
- Drivers are significantly more aware of hazards.
- Damage and repair costs are reduced significantly.
- Machine maintenance is more efficient.
Our collaboration with Boplan highlights our commitment to safety at the highest level. Their robust solutions protect not only indoor areas, they also improve safety in outdoor environments. Thanks to their distinctive design, they are always highly visible.
