Boplan partners with Unilin Insulation as part of its zero-harm safety vision

Investing in effective safety measures from alpha to omega is essential for a safe workplace. Unilin Insulation, the market leader in insulation solutions and roofing elements, knows this better than anyone. Boplan's impact-resistant safety barrier systems have become a key element of the company's zero-harm safety vision. We gladly describe the challenges and solutions of this project.

The challenge

How Boplan contributes to Unilin Insulation's mission to be a zero-harm company

Safety has been high on Unilin Insulation's agenda for many years and is firmly embedded within the organisation. This safety culture translates into preventive measures, such as the deployment of high-quality safety solutions. In the video, Arne Bonnez, Plant Manager at Unilin Insulation, shares insights on the company's zero-harm safety vision and the role Boplan plays in this.

Protecting pedestrians and infrastructure from collisions

Our safety solutions at Unilin Insulation:

The clear floor marking tape at Unilin Insulation's warehouses make the walkways highly visible. This helps pedestrians to stay alert as they navigate the workplace. Boplan's physical protection solutions also play an important part. In the storage area of the Desselgem site, forklift trucks are used intensively on a daily basis, prompting us to install various safety barriers in different sizes and applications to protect both pedestrians and infrastructure from collisions as effectively as possible. Boplan conducted a thorough needs analysis for this in collaboration with Unilin Insulation.

"We work with our customers to find the most suitable safety solutions that are fully tailored to their particular situation. We take into account three important parameters in this regard: the vehicle's weight and speed and the possible impact angle. Transparency is critical to this process," states Sebastian Depuydt, Sales Account Manager of Boplan Belgium.

"This approach has resulted in sustainable and effective customised safety solutions that are perfectly in line with Unilin Insulation's zero-harm safety vision."

Safety barriers with handrails

Physical protection was installed along the walkways to prevent pedestrians from entering the warehouse and becoming directly exposed to forklift traffic. TB 400 Plus safety barriers ensure clear separation and safe crossings.

Customised bollards with handrails

Strategically placed, impact-resistant polymer bollards combined with robust handrails effectively protect load-bearing columns from collision damage. This customised safety solution improves both visibility and structural safety. The bollards make forklift drivers extra alert during manoeuvres. The design ensures sufficient space around the pillars to ensure fire prevention equipment access and the efficient storage of goods. The exceptionally tall bollards are connected with handrails for extra strength and maximum stability.

Like all FLEX IMPACT® products, these safety solutions absorb impacts and effortlessly revert to their original shape.

Kick rails and height restrictors

Kick rails were installed along the walls. They offer effective protection against forklift damage without restricting the aisle space. We also installed the TB MINI with a 5 kJ impact resistance. This barrier consists of a single tube just above the ground that absorbs any collisions with light rolling stock.

Goal posts were installed to protect the gates from collisions. These robust height restrictors offer physical protection and increase visibility for drivers. A special feature of this installation is its impressive height of more than 6 metres, which is designed specifically for this location.
