Step-by-step safety: how Boplan implemented a safe pedestrian circulation plan at ArcelorMittal

Essential polymer safety barriers for an industrial steel manufacturer

In the industrial environment of ArcelorMittal Ghent, pedestrians cross paths with light and heavy rolling equipment every day. A moment’s inattention can have serious consequences. In their search for a robust and highly visible barrier between pedestrians and motorised traffic, they found a strong partner in Boplan — a company that approaches safety the way they approach steel: with a sharp focus on quality, precision and reliability.

The challenge

At ArcelorMittal Ghent, people’s safety comes first. To effectively separate pedestrians from vehicles without disrupting the production process, they needed a solution that went beyond traditional concrete barriers.

Concrete barriers provided insufficient impact protection, were difficult to relocate and interfered with maintenance. This is why ArcelorMittal chose Boplan’s smart, modular safety solutions. These robust safety barriers are highly visible, extremely impact-resistant and require minimal maintenance. The result? A safer, more efficient and better organised workplace.

The solution

Boplan collaborated with ArcelorMittal to develop a well-considered safety system tailored to the company’s specific needs. The plan establishes clearly defined, permanent walkways and shields critical areas.

HP PLUS 3 Rails – visibility in all conditions

We installed HP PLUS handrails for both indoor use and outdoor use in busy work zones and along footpaths. In this production setting, where dust and dirt can obscure vision, luminescent strips ensure excellent visibility. Even in low-light conditions.

BO200R bollards

In strategic locations, bollards protect infrastructure, indicate traffic flow and enhance visibility — for example, at the ends of handrails. The black-and-yellow colour combination, enhanced with reflective stripes, boosts driver awareness.

TB 260 PLUS with and without removable base plate

In areas where regular maintenance of technical installations is needed, the TB 260 PLUS safety barrier replaced traditional concrete blocks. It provides robust impact protection and, thanks to the removable base plate, can be quickly and easily dismantled when necessary. This simplifies maintenance while keeping safety fully intact.

The result

Thanks to Boplan’s safety solutions…

  • Pedestrians benefit from permanent protection.
  • Drivers are significantly more alert.
  • Damage and repair costs are substantially reduced.
  • Machine maintenance is more efficient.

The collaboration with Boplan highlights our commitment to safety at the highest level. Their robust solutions protect not only indoor areas but also enhance safety in outdoor environments. Thanks to their distinctive design, they never go unnoticed.
